AfterTheRiver

An animated poker hand-review show. OMC Ollie (old-school), Gambler Gary (loose), and Solver Sam (a robot who quotes the solver) argue about one hand. The characters are the show, and the hand is the excuse.

The story

Before → turning point → after

Before

3D dead end

My first try was full 3D with Unreal, Meshy, and Mixamo. It was a dead end because the faces weren't good enough. Talking-head clips worked, and by July 2026 I had 2 episodes and 3 character intros up.

Turning point

Split the work

AI animates the faces, and a small Python program owns every piece of poker truth: the cards, the board, the hand-history blackboard, and when each one appears.

After

A real show

An official logo. Two new Shorts in the revamped animated format. A fully re-animated pilot, in long and vertical versions, finished Oct 9, 2026.

Before AI help → now

The numbers

Small, and that's honest.

Watch it street by street

How we do it

The rules I actually follow

  • The character look is final. No remakes.
  • AI never decides cards or chips; code does.
  • A real hand never gets made-up later streets.
Lessons learned

Failures included

  • “The room liked it; YouTube ignored it.” People at the table enjoy it more than YouTube does so far.
  • AI video can't keep playing cards correct, which is why the overlays exist.
